The Service

When I lost my wife to cancer in 2005, I decided that I would organise the funeral service (with the help of a vicar who guided me through the process and held the ceremony together). I wrote the tribute and delivered it myself and at the end of the service my Funeral Director told me that he thought the whole service had been very good and asked if I had ever thought of doing it professionally. Of course, I had not, but knowing the satisfaction I felt after being able to say goodbye exactly the way I had wished, it seemed like a very interesting idea.

So, after 32 years in the Royal Air Force and having seen service in Germany, Northern Ireland, Cyprus, The Gulf and many other locations, I was spurred on to train with Civil Ceremonies Ltd and join The Institute of Civil Funerals. I now gain great satisfaction from helping others to achieve what I felt at that very difficult time.

After 4 years conducting services in Buckinghamshire, I was described in an article in the British Institute of Funeral Directors Journal as “one of the busiest and most successful celebrants in the country." In 2012, I was honoured with prestigious Marilyn Watts Memorial Trophy, by The Institute of Civil Funerals, awarded for outstanding contribution to Civil Funerals nationally.

I moved down to Devon with my partner in 2009. Living in the beautiful hamlet of Cobbaton, I am fairly central to visit families and conduct services throughout North and Mid Devon, and also cover the Taunton area of Somerset.
